Jet2 clarifies luggage policy for customers travelling with children | Travel News | Travel

Jet2 has clarified its luggage rules for families travelling with young children – and knowing the tip in advance can help make travel easier for passengers. While customers may be familiar with the airline’s additional luggage provision for those flying with infants, Jet2 also operates a pushchair policy intended to assist parents navigating the airport.

In a social media exchange, Jet2 explained that parents aren’t required to check in their pushchair at the bag drop desk. Rather, families with a foldable buggy are permitted to use it right up until they reach the air bridge or aircraft steps, reports the Mirror.

The airline clarified its stance after being contacted by a customer via @Jet2tweets on X. Sharing her question, a parent named Tracy wrote: “We’re flying with Jet2 next month with our one year old son.

“We’re bringing the doona pram with us as one of our baby items. Will we be able to use it up until the boarding gate then have it put in hold or will we need to hand it over at the baggage drop? Thanks.”

In response, a Jet2 team member named Josh replied: “Hi Tracy, thanks for getting in touch. You are able to use this all the way up until the plane.” Parents can find more information about Jet2’s policy on the airline’s website.

As per Jet2’s FAQ section, passengers with an infant under two years old receive an extra 10kg allowance for their accompanying adult’s 22kg hold bag. The airline said this is free of charge and applies to each infant-and-adult pairing on the booking.

Parents can also take two items of equipment per child to be carried in the hold free of charge if they’re travelling with a collapsible pushchair, car seat, baby back carrier or travel cot. Customers can keep their child’s pushchair with them until boarding.

The airline said: “For your convenience, you can take your collapsible pushchair/buggy all the way to the plane steps/air bridge, where we’ll put it in the hold and you can get it back at baggage reclaim.”

Jet2 asks passengers to inform them if they’re travelling with more than one item. It said: “If you’re carrying more than one of these items, please let us know so we can advise our local agents in resort to make sure the transfer you’ve booked will accommodate them. On occasion, you may need to change to a private transfer at an extra cost.”

Weight limits also apply to these items. The guidance on the airline’s website explains: “Each item must weigh no more than 32kg, and any extra items (or weight beyond your allowance) will be charged as standard excess baggage.”
