Jurgen Klopp releases 21-word statement as Liverpool win the league after exit | Football | Sport
Jurgen Klopp has declared himself “super happy” after seeing his former side Liverpool clinch the Premier League title on Sunday. Just a year after the German made an emotional departure from Anfield, Arne Slot and his players celebrated wildly following their 5-1 win over Tottenham, which put them 15 points clear of Arsenal with just four games to play.
After the game, Slot paid tribute to his predecessor for leaving him with a strong squad and installing a winning mentality at the club. He even sang Klopp’s name over the microphone, replicating the scenes which saw the now Red Bull advisor do the same for him at his last match 12 months ago. Urging the fans to back his Dutch successor, Klopp sang Slot’s name in front of the Anfield crowd.
Klopp has now taken to Instagram to express his delight at Liverpool’s title win, with the majority of the squad having played under him during his eight-and-a-half-year tenure. He posted a picture of the team celebrating and wrote an emotional caption.
“Super grateful for the past, super, super happy about the present, extremely positive about the future!” he wrote. “Congratulations – YNWA. Thank You Luv.”
Within 30 minutes of the post going up to his five millions followers, it had already accumulated over a quarter of a million likes. Thousands of fans of the Reds also commented hailing Klopp’s previous work at the club.
Klopp won one league title at Liverpool, in the 2019/20 season that was derailed by Covid-19. Prior to his singing, Slot hailed him for laying the foundations for the ex-Feyenoord man to become just the fifth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season in England.
“That is what definitely helped me but apart from that he helped me even more with the team he left behind and the culture he left behind in that team,” he said. “That’s one of the reasons we could achieve what we have achieved this season. For obvious reasons, it was a nice moment to thank him as well.”
