Keir Starmer humiliated at World Darts Championship by X-rated chant | Other | Sport

On Saturday, Sky censored the crowd during the chant, sang to the tune of The White Stripes’ cult favourite Seven Nations Army, as the broadcaster appeared to turn down the volume in order to drown the crowd out.

The songbook was turned to Starmer during Nathan Aspinall’s match, as the PM was humiliated further as the Asp took on American star Leonard Gates.

After throwing his three darts in the second set of a 3-0 win, Aspinall noticed that the chants against Starmer grew louder, and he moved his arms up in the air, seemingly to encourage them to increase the volume.

In October at the World Grand Prix, those in Leicester repeated the same chant but once again, Sky played generic crowd noise over the top.

Starmer is thought to be an avid darts fan and congratulated Luke Littler when he became world champion nearly a year ago.

He took to social media to write: “Mesmerising performance from @LukeTheNuke180 to win the World Darts Championship.

“Congratulations Luke on being the youngest ever PDC World Darts Champion. An inspirational performance under such pressure to lift the trophy. You should be really proud of what you’ve achieved tonight, not just for yourself but for the sport of darts as a whole.”

Only a day before the boos at Noppert’s match with Hood, an impression of Starmer was jeered by the Royal Variety Performance audience.

Impressionist group Dead Ringers impersonated past PMs and Starmer on ITV, with the performer playing Starmer booed, to which the comedian responded: “Thank you, thank you. It’s so lovely to be here.

“I’ve absolutely developed a brilliant strategy for surviving the roundtable by making sure that no one will vote for me ever again. It’s called ‘being Keir Starmer’.”
