Lloyds and Halifax are closing another 84 branches across the UK this year as more customers shift to digital banking.

Both brands are part of Lloyds Banking Group, alongside Bank of Scotland, which has this week announced it will close 95 of its UK branches between May 2026 and March 2027. The latest round of closures comes as part of plans to give customers more “flexibility” to bank wherever they need to, including through apps, online, 24/7 messaging services and community banking hubs. The group said the way customers are banking is changin,g and the significant reduction in its branch network comes as it accelerates plans to cut costs and digitise services.

Under the plans, a total of 53 Lloyds branches and 31 Halifax branches are due to close by this summer, meaning 84 locations in total will disappear from UK high streets for good.

Lloyds hasn’t specified how many of its staff will be impacted by the closures, but all those who work at the affected branches will be offered a role at another branch, or in another part of the businesses.

Lloyds is already in the middle of its latest round of closures which will see 49 branches shut by October, and these follow 136 closures announced around a year ago. Once all the previously announced closures are complete, Lloyds will have 610 UK branches remaining.

Meanwhile, Halifax closed eight of its branches for good last month, with these closures coming off the back of more sites shutting down in 2025.

As well as through its apps, Lloyds Banking Group said customers will still be able to do their everyday banking at Lloyds and Halifax branches, as well as at 11,000 Post Office branches, or banking hubs, and can also use telephone banking.

Cash access network Link said 14 new locations will receive a banking hub in order to protect access to cash across the country.

A spokeswoman for Lloyds said: “Customers want the freedom to bank in the way that works for them and we offer more choice and ways to manage money than ever before.

“From our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service to local banking options like our community bankers, PayPoint and access to all of our Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, we’re giving our customers the flexibility to bank wherever and whenever they need us.”
