Elton Charles, son-in-law of Lord Patten, has received a five-year jail sentence for his part in a ‘mafia-style’ shooting last year.

After being recruited by his half-brother Nathaniel St Aimie, Charles was the getaway driver in a plot to terrorise bosses at the PBK restaurant in Greenford, west London.

Charles, 51, is married to Lord Patten’s daughter Laura and was jailed alongside co-conspirators Nicholas Grant, 46, and Lee Morgan, 42, reports the Daily Mail.

Morgan supplied the shotgun that shattered a window spraying glass across the dining room where there were diners including children who reportedly screamed in fear.

The court showed CCTV footage of a hooded gunman getting out of the getaway van driven by Charles. The figure then headed towards the restaurant, opening fire at around 9.30pm.

The incident may have lasted just minutes but has changed the life of the Conservative peer and former Hong Kong governor’s daughter, Laura, forever.

The three men were convicted of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence at Kingston Crown Court.

The organiser of the shooting, St Aimie, 48, from Tooting southwest London was given six years and three months in prison after admitted the same charge.

Judge Jonathan Davies was said to be ‘moved’ after watching parents protect their children during the incident, however, no diners were injured.

Following a six-week trial that saw the jury deliberating for seven hours, the trio were convicted last month.

The judge said: “You all played an important part in what happened and Mr St Aimie, I am satisfied, and you haven’t denied it, you were the organiser of the shooting and played a leading role. “

Gasps from members of the defendant’s families were heard from the public gallery as the guilty verdicts were returned.

Lord Patten’s daughter Laura held her head in her hands and wept.
