An air ambulance is among the emergency service vehicles at the scene of the crash as officials continue to investigate the cause and impacts of the multi-vehicle incident between junctions 32 and 33.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “At 10:27am this morning, we received a report of a multi-vehicle collision, between Junctions 32 and 33 on the Southbound carriageway of the M6.

“Our officers, and other emergency service colleagues remain at the scene, where the ambulance service are treating people.

“This is very much in its early stages, but we anticipate that the motorway and A6 junction will be closed for some time, as we, and our colleagues respond to the incident.

“We know that it may be frustrating to have your journey delayed, or your route changed. We ask that you please be patient and understand that our officers and colleagues are working to resume normality as soon as they can. At this stage, our priority is responding to the collision, and we will bring you updates when we are able to.
