Mallorca holiday horror as storm leaves cars stranded in floods | Europe | Travel
The typically sun-soaked island of Mallorca was transformed earlier this week as the heavens opened, unleashing torrential rain.
Several videos were uploaded to TikTok showing how the weather suddenly turned on Monday (September 23), leaving streets flooded and cars wading through several inches of murky water.
One tourist captioned their video “going to Mallorca in September to get some good weather”, but the footage instead showed grey skies as people walked around with raincoats and umbrellas.
More footage, captured in Mallorca’s infamous party town Magaluf, showed cars marooned in deep flood water. One vehicle was seen with its hazard lights flashing on and off.
Similar footage was shared from Palma Nova, just up the coast from Magaluf.
People with trips booked to Mallorca rushed to the comment sections of these videos to express their concern. One said: “Just my luck. I fly out Friday. I hope everyone is okay.” And another said: ” I fly in 1 hour. I hope the weather is good.”
Luckily for those holidaymakers, people already in Mallorca revealed how conditions soon cleared up after the flooding.
One comment read: “I arrived in Palma Nova as the storm hit. It was lovely a few hours later. Your stay won’t be ruined.” A second said: “Everything is fine now sunshine again.”
According to the Met Office, people visiting Mallorca in the coming days can expect mostly sunny skies and decent temperatures. Today (Thursday, September 26) temperatures should peak at 27C, with 26C coming tomorrow.
The weekend is expected to be cooler, with the mercury only peaking at 22C.
HolidayWeather.com suggests September is the third wettest month on average in Mallorca. October is the wettest, followed by November, so if you’re thinking about a visit you might want to plan it for next year!
