A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Northampton on Wednesday, February 18. Emergency services were called to a skate park in Ringway, Briar Hill, after receiving reports that two people had been stabbed during an “altercation in the park”, Northamptonshire Police said.

A man in his 20s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of members of the public and the emergency services, while a teenage boy was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in a critical condition, police said. The force set up a cordon at the park following the incident and it is expected to remain in place as the probe continues.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody at this time, police said, adding they were two teenage boys, a man and a woman – all from Northampton.

The force explained locals will see an increased police presence in the area, including high-visibility patrols to offer reassurance and support the community, and said house-to-house enquiries are ongoing.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life, and a teenage boy is in a critical condition. Our thoughts are firmly with both their families at this difficult time.
