It has also previously reported by The Sun that the England international believes he won’t play for the Red Devils again and has told close friends that he expects to leave United after waiting three months for an answer on his future, with a move abroad the most likely option after interest from Juventus.

Current boss Erik ten Hag has been tight-lipped about Greenwood’s potential return but claimed in an interview with The Times that he has “showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [scoring goals for the club]”. The 52-year-old boss has stressed, however, that the final decision is not his to make.

He has also not been training with the first-team, with Greenwood’s last game for the Red Devils coming back in January 2022 when he played 82 minutes in a 1-0 win over West Ham United.

In total, the £75,000-a-week forward has scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club after graduating from the academy in 2018 and breaking into the first-team squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
