Following the impressive results from their 2025 signings, Manchester United will undoubtedly be pursuing similar achievements this summer. Yet their ability to recruit may hinge as much on departures as on fresh additions. Friday’s eventful draw at Bournemouth hampered the club’s aspirations of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League. Despite this, Michael Carrick’s squad remain favourably positioned to earn qualification for next season’s Champions League.
The interim boss might well secure a permanent appointment should the team manage to return to European football’s elite competition. With this in consideration, Express Sport examines the latest transfer speculation surrounding Old Trafford this week.
Napoli chief eyes McTominay reunion
Plenty of United supporters were gutted to see Scott McTominay depart his boyhood outfit for Napoli during the summer of 2024. Having extracted such substantial value from the Scotland international, the Serie A side will seek to replicate that formula.
Napoli are reportedly pursuing up to four United players whose contracts expire this summer. Antonio Conte’s outfit could secure another collection of cut-price deals if their Old Trafford recruitment drive proves successful, potentially reuniting McTominay with one or several former United team-mates.
CalcioNapoli24 has claimed Napoli are preparing approaches for Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Tom Heaton. All four players are currently scheduled to have their contracts run out this summer.

Among those mentioned, only Maguire and Casemiro could be regarded as genuinely central to Carrick’s strategy this campaign. The latter has already confirmed his departure on a free transfer this summer.
Maguire, 33, is also understood to be in discussions to agree a fresh short-term deal. It’s been suggested that the England centre-back could nearly reduce his salary by half to remain at Old Trafford, though the opportunity to begin anew in Naples might prove attractive.

Napoli are free to negotiate with any of the quartet now that they have entered the final six months of their current contracts. Both McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund, who has spent this season on loan with the Serie A side, can testify that opportunities abroad can prove beneficial.
Man Utd linked with Alphonso Davies
Should Malacia leave for Napoli or elsewhere, Alphonso Davies could arrive as another option at left-back. The Canadian has been out of Vincent Kompany’s plans this season because of recurring fitness problems, including an ACL rupture that ruled him out at the beginning of the campaign.
However, Bild claim that United hold a genuine interest in securing his services. The club wants additional competition for Luke Shaw, who has endured his own catalogue of fitness problems, but continues to be strongly preferred for the position when available.
Diogo Dalot has reverted to playing right-back on a more regular basis since Carrick took charge in January. Patrick Dorgu was brought in to provide cover on the left side, though it seems his future may lie further forward.
This is believed to have directed United towards Davies, who is 12 months into a Bayern contract scheduled to expire in 2030. Nonetheless, the right proposal could persuade Bayern to part ways.
