Man Utd player ratings vs Everton with three 4/10s in woeful defeat | Football | Sport

Manchester United slumped to their first Premier League defeat since September 27 with an awful defeat to 10-man Everton at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were frustrated by a stubborn Toffees defence despite Idrissa Gana Gueye’s bizarre 13th-minute red card for slapping his own team-mate, Michael Keane, in the face. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put the Toffees in front on the half-hour mark with a curling finish.

United desperately sought to make the most of their one-man advantage but were poor in attack, managing just six shots on target across the 90 minutes, and suffered a miserable setback. The loss ends a five-match unbeaten run in the league and sees Ruben Amorim’s men miss out on a chance to move level on points with fourth-placed Aston Villa. Express Sport rates and slates the United players…

Man Utd player ratings vs Everton

Senne Lammens – 5

Had his first questionable moment in a United shirt for the Dewsbury-Hall goal which he could have got a stronger hand to. Otherwise sound but that shot was the one that decided the game.

Leny Yoro – 5

Was on hand to provide a vital headed clearance from an Iliman Ndiaye cross early on but then too easily beaten by Dewsbury-Hall for the goal. Pushed forward to offer an extra body in attack second half but almost every pass was a sideways one.

Matthijs de Ligt – 6

A bit slow out to close Dewsbury-Hall for his goal but was not the main man to blame by any means. Looked shaky defensively in general but supplied a great ball to Mount that led to one Bruno Fernandes chance and a good cross for a Joshua Zirkzee header. Presented with a good opportunity in stoppage time but was leaning back as he fired at goal which meant an easy save.

Luke Shaw – 4

Left Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville frustrated by refusing to attack more in the second half. A quite placid performance from the left-back.

Noussar Mazraoui – 5

Unable to trouble a resilient Everton backline and paid the price by being brought off at half-time. Bit of an unfortunate casualty to be fair.

Casemiro – 5

His foul on Jack Grealish, for which he was booked, was about his only real contribution to the game before he was brought off. Still wasn’t as poor as some of his team-mates though.

Bruno Fernandes – 5

Fell asleep defensively for the Everton goal. Came close to an equaliser a few times including with two long-range efforts, one that Jordan Pickford saved and another that went just over, but also guilty of a bizarre decision to shoot with the outside of his right boot at one chance. If he went with his left, he might have made it 1-1 with plenty of time to score a winner.

Patrick Dorgu – 4

An evening to forget for the Dane. Wasted a great chance to make it 1-1 33 minutes in with a rash shot and decision-making was poor throughout. Brought off for Diogo Dalot, who isn’t very good going forward.

Bryan Mbeumo – 5

Brought a good second-half save but not his best night aside from that. Everton dealt with him well. Still one of the few players you sensed might force the issue for United. Booked.

Amad Diallo – 6

Looked one of the likeliest United players to make something happen but was moved into a right wing-back role by Ruben Amorim at half-time. Still one of the home side’s best players from there, making several good passes to try and force things, but was without any killer end product.

Joshua Zirkzee – 4

Offered too little in attack for much of the match. Saved from a 3/10 by a bottom-corner-bound header that Pickford had to stretch to tip wide of the post. Forced another save from Pickford with a header late on.

Substitutes

Mason Mount (Mazroaui 46) – 6

Helped improve United’s attacking threat with a few attempts on goal. None truly troubled Pickford.

Kobbie Mainoo (Casemiro 58) – 5

Got a huge cheer when he came on but didn’t really get into the game.

Diogo Dalot (Dorgu 58) – 5

Came on as a left-sided wing-back. Isn’t the wing-back you want when chasing a goal.
