‘Masterpiece’ crime thriller Mindhunter fans can’t miss | Films | Entertainment

‘One of the best films ever made’ that enthusiasts claim audiences will never forget after viewing it, is departing Netflix imminently.

The picture, Seven, occasionally styled as Se7en, will remain accessible on the streaming service for only a short whilst longer.

Regarded as a masterpiece by numerous critics and a must-watch for everyone at least once, the window of opportunity is closing for subscribers.

Netflix has now confirmed that the film’s last day available for streaming will be March 18. This provides audiences a month to ensure they haven’t squandered an opportunity to experience one of Empire magazine’s top 100 films of all time.

For the uninitiated, the narrative centres on retiring police Detective William Somerset who undertakes a final investigation with assistance from recently transferred David Mills.

They find themselves examining a series of intricate and horrific killings.

The pair quickly discover they are confronting a serial killer who is selecting victims he believes embody one of the seven deadly sins. Despite its original cinema release over 30 years ago, the picture remains as powerful as it was then with a remarkable ensemble featuring Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow. Nevertheless, one performer declined to be listed in the credits for fear of exposing spoilers to the film’s startling conclusion.

It was helmed by David Fincher in merely his second feature-length project, following Alien 3. The now acclaimed director would subsequently create Fight Club, Zodiac and Gone Girl.

He also contributed to developing the Netflix series Mindhunter, overseeing multiple episodes.

Seven represents essential viewing for devotees of that programme, and indeed any gritty crime thriller. It unfolds in an unidentified, perpetually drenched American metropolis bearing greater resemblance to Batman’s Gotham than any real location.

Cinema enthusiasts and reviewers continue to regard the title as amongst the finest of its era, genre and one that has remained compelling decades onwards. As Empire stated: “Not since The Exorcist has there been a mainstream Hollywood studio movie as extraordinarily dark, bleak, intense and as monumentally scary as this.”

One fan agreed: “One of the best films ever made. It is a true masterpiece. I have seen this film like a thousand times and every time I watch it again it’s as disturbing as the first time. It’s always intriguing from start till finish. This is one of the best stories ever told on screen. 10/10 for this motion picture, it’s a true art. A must watch.”

Someone else claimed: “Probably the greatest murder story ever. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see Seven yet then you must. The only reason you wouldn’t is because you’re just too damn fragile to take something this hardcore.”
