Mauricio Pochettino appears to have kept his options open regarding a potential return to Tottenham. Whilst the former Spurs manager will guide the United States through their home World Cup this summer, his future beyond that tournament remains uncertain, and he didn’t dismiss a Premier League comeback in a recent interview.

Pochettino, who oversaw Spurs from 2014 to 2019, continues to enjoy tremendous support amongst supporters and features amongst numerous high-profile candidates linked with the permanent position. The club currently finds itself in turmoil and fighting against the drop, with ex-Juventus boss Igor Tudor stepping in as caretaker following Thomas Frank’s dismissal. Whilst Pochettino prepares to lead the USA at this summer’s World Cup, he hasn’t dismissed returning to his former club after the tournament.

Speaking on Spanish radio, he suggested that he was ‘open to everything’ when it comes to his future in the dugout.

“I’m always linked [to clubs], to Tottenham, just like at one time I was linked to Espanyol, or to other clubs,” said Pochettino.

“In the end, especially because of my past at those clubs, when things aren’t going well, people tend to fall back on emotions and say: ‘Well, with Mauricio we played good football’, or whatever it may be.

“But no. We’re focused on the World Cup, on the United States. My contract runs until after the World Cup, so after that we’ll see what might happen. Open to everything, right?”

Tudor assumed control earlier this month on a temporary basis with the singular objective of securing Premier League survival.

He took over from Frank, who was dismissed earlier this month after securing merely two victories from 17 league fixtures. Spurs have also failed to register a win in 2026.

That trend persisted last weekend with a loss to Arsenal in the north London derby, leaving them just four points clear from the relegation zone after West Ham’s draw with Bournemouth.

Pochettino appears to be the frontrunner to become Frank’s permanent replacement, with Spurs requiring a manager capable of re-energising the supporters.

Whilst silverware eluded him, the Pochettino era is remembered with considerable affection, having challenged strongly in two Premier League title campaigns.

The club also progressed to the Champions League final in 2019, though ultimately fell short against Liverpool.

Pochettino departed just months following that finale, with Spurs turning to Jose Mourinho as his successor. Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte, Ange Postecoglou and Frank have subsequently served as permanent bosses.

Roberto De Zerbi, Robbie Keane and Enzo Maresca have emerged as potential alternatives to Pochettino. Other prominent figures, including Julian Nagelsmann and Carlo Ancelotti, may become available following the World Cup.
