Met office issues rare amber warnings for snow covering huge areas of England | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued two rare amber warnings for snow and ice over almost all of England this weekend.

The warnings cover much of the north of England and the Midlands, and the Met Office said that 3-7cm of snow was possible in large areas with as much as 15-30cm of snow falling in higher ground of Wales and the southern Pennines.

The forecaster added: ” Snow will become persistent and locally heavy as it pushes south to north across the warning area.

“As well as snow, a period of freezing rain is also likely bringing some hazardous travel conditions before milder air follows across all areas by Sunday morning.”
