Michael Caine’s top 7 films and number one is a little known classic | Films | Entertainment

A fan has compiled the top Sir Michael Caine films based on their IMDb scores, with a lesser-known classic ranking highest. Sir Michael is a Hollywood giant, having starred in more than 160 movies over an eight-decade career.

 

Born Maurice Micklewhite, the 93-year-old became a household name in the 1960s with roles in a string of iconic films, including The Italian Job, The Ipcress File, and Alfie, which earned him a Best Actor nomination. The London-born star went on to win two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor, for Hannah and Her Sisters in 1987, and The Cider House in 2000.

 

Sir Michael was knighted in 2000 by the late Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his contribution to cinema.

 

One of his many fans previously compiled a list of his highest-rated films on the review aggregator platform, and there were some surprising inclusions in the top 7.

Sir Michael starred as Jack Carter in this hard-hitting 1971 gangster flick, playing a London assassin who goes back to Newcastle, his home town, after his brother’ death.

But he doubts the official story of an accidental death through drunk driving. Jack believes he was killed, and seeks revenge.

Get Carter has a 7.3/10 score from 40,000 reviews.

In fourth is The Man Who Would Be King (1975), an action adventure film about two rogue soldiers Daniel Dravot (Sean Connery) and Peachy Carnehan (Sir Michael) who set off from late-19th-century British India to establish themselves as rulers in faraway Kafiristan.

They make it to the region (which was then independent but later incorporated into Afghanistan) and attempt to convince the locals that they are are gods, using their superior military tech and medicine. 

But their plans to deceive the population are at constant risk of collapse, and Dravot begins to believe his own lie about being divine.

Sir Michael’s wife of more than 50 years, Shakira Caine, also stars.

The film has a 7.7/10 score on IMDb from 55,000 reviews.

The Italian Job (1969), a film among the most associated with Sir Michael’s work came in third, with a 7.2/10 score from 54,000 reviews.

In it he stars as criminal Charlie Croker, who after being released from prison forms a crew that targets cache of gold bullion being transported through Turin, Italy, in an audacious heist.

The film is known for its iconic music, one liners, and THAT Mini Cooper chase scene.
