More than 50% of young people have used AI chatbots in the past year, studies show

But 54% of 4,000 eight to 25-year-olds surveyed said they were worried about the effect AI would have on jobs in the future.

The data was shared in Nominet’s new Digital Youth Index which looks at young people’s online attitudes and habits.

Nominet CEO Paul Fletcher said it was “encouraging” to see that young people were embracing AI tech.

The study also found that 94% of respondents felt safe online.

However, 76% said they had been exposed to upsetting content.

This is up 7% on last year, with increases in exposure to hate speech and fake news up 4% and sexual content rising by 6%.

Mr Fletcher said the rise in upsetting content exposure “highlights that tackling online harm remains important to young people”.

On average, people spent four to five hours a day online – on social media, speaking with friends or accessing entertainment.
