Netflix has just added the new film from makers of what is considered ‘best documentary ever made’.
The creators of the acclaimed docuseries Don’t F*** With Cats’ latest project has now landed on the streaming platform, which is a gripping tale about the ‘world’s greatest diamond heist’.
Stolen: Heist of the Century is available for streaming from Friday (August 8). It’s produced by RAW, the company renowned not only for its hit true crime series but also American Nightmare and The Tindler Swindler.
Their newest offering delves into the story of the ultimate real-life crime caper, the world’s most audacious diamond heist.
According to the synopsis provided by Netflix, the Antwerp detectives who solved the case, along with the alleged criminal mastermind, come together for the first time to provide a detailed account of what truly transpired.
The feature-length documentary promises to unveil the secrets of ‘The Heist of the Century’. Unlike previous limited series releases, this will be a film clocking in at approximately one hour and 35 minutes.
On the morning of February 17, 2003, detectives from Antwerp’s notorious Diamond Squad were summoned to investigate the daring night-time robbery of a supposedly unbreachable vault in the heart of the City of Diamonds, reports the Mirror.
It’s estimated that between $100 million and half a billion dollars worth of diamonds were pilfered. A clever gang of master thieves from Italy, known as The School of Turin, were believed to be behind the audacious heist.
Now, after more than two decades, the world will finally discover how they accomplished it.
Helmed by the same director behind Don’t F*** With Cats, the upcoming film draws inspiration from the book Flawless, penned by Scott Andrew Selby and Greg Campbell.
Viewers heaped acclaim upon Don’t F*** With Cats, with one declaring it was ‘the best documentary ever made’.
Another enthusiast wrote online: “A really excellent crime and investigation series based on true events, the only downside is that at first it feels a little dry and uninteresting, but if you can tolerate the beginning, this is a masterpiece series.”
A third viewer declared: “Don’t F**k with Cats” is a gripping rollercoaster of a documentary that will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.”
This means Stolen: Heist of the Century faces towering expectations if it hopes to match such glowing reception.
Excitement has been mounting for its debut ever since Netflix unveiled the trailer online.
Responding to the preview on its YouTube channel, one viewer suggested it resembled a real-life version of action thriller Den of Thieves.
Another commented: “These guys pulled off something so wild, I thought it was straight out of Grand Theft Auto.”
