A brand new true crime documentary arriving on Netflix will scrutinise the case of the “hell on wheels” killer.

The Crash will be available on the platform from May 15 and originates from the production company responsible for some of the service’s most watched titles.

According to the synopsis, the feature-length film will investigate an extraordinary case that initially appeared to be a tragic accident, but authorities quickly discovered something far more sinister unfolding.

Back in 2022, a vehicle carrying three young adults crashed into a brick building at 100 miles per hour in Strongsville, Ohio, leaving just one sole survivor. The two passengers lost their lives.

The driver, 17 year old Mackenzie Shirilla, was taking her boyfriend, Dom, and his friend, Davion, home from a party but then the unthinkable happened, reports the Mirror.

As detectives examined the wreckage, what initially appears to be an accident begins to resemble a calculated crime scene.

The Crash takes a comprehensive look into the turbulent relationship at the centre, analysing the shifting narratives of that fateful night to explore where a fatal mistake ends and cold-blooded murder begins.

Netflix’s film will be the latest thorough investigation into the incident and subsequent case, exploring and examining the chilling crime.

It is not the first of its kind however, as the case has previously been featured in Channel 4’s Killer Cases, Murder on Wheels and the series Mean Girl Murders. During the trial, a judge branded Shirilla “hell on wheels,” a description that has since become intertwined with the incident. Imposing two life sentences, they stated she was ‘on a mission’ and bore sole responsibility for the anguish felt by everyone present in court.

They declared: “This was not reckless driving. Her actions were controlled, methodical, deliberate, intentional and purposeful. This was not reckless driving. This was murder.”

Prior to her arrest for the fatalities, she paid homage to her boyfriend, expressing: “You are the last person who deserved this… you had such a perfect life ahead of you.”

Netflix’s documentary is helmed by Gareth Johnson, who previously directed the streaming giant’s true crime feature The Puppet Master: Hunting The Ultimate Conman. It marks the latest partnership between the platform and production house RAW TV.

The firms have previously collaborated on some of the most watched true crime programmes including Don’t F**k With Cats, The Tinder Swindler, American Nightmare, and Trainwreck.
