New Android phone offers powerful upgrade Samsung and Google can’t match

If you prefer Android to iPhone and are looking for a big upgrade when you get your next smartphone, there are so many options to choose from. Two of the best reasons to get a new phone are improvements in camera quality and battery life, and if it’s the latter you’re after, you may want to consider the latest phone from Realme, the sub-brand of Chinese phone giant Oppo.

As spotted by The Verge, Realme has announced the P4 Power, a smartphone with a 10,001mAh battery. That is an absolutely colossal battery size, considering the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has half that with 5,000mAh.

Google also can’t match it, with its largest battery found in the Pixel 10 Pro XL at 5,200mAh.

Realme claims the P4 Power can last for three days of use in some cases, which almost seems like an underestimate. I reviewed the Oppo Find X9 Pro with a 7,500mAh battery, as well as the OnePlus 15 with 7,300mAh, and both phones lasted three days on a single charge with light use.

We don’t know the other specs of the P4 Power, but as it is likely to be a mid-range phone with a similarly mid-range processor, the battery could well last more than three days. The phone only weighs 219g according to Realme, which means this is a huge battery in a normal size and weight phone.

That’s thanks to the fact it has a silicon-carbon battery, a new kind of battery for electronic devices that is more power efficient and power dense compared to traditional lithium-ion cells.

This tech is inside the Find X9 Pro and OnePlus 15, enabling much better battery life than flagship phones from rivals Samsung and Apple, two firms that are seemingly hesitant to adopt the new technology.

That means you will soon be able to find cheaper Chinese-made phones with outstanding battery life for prices that shouldn’t break the bank. Unfortunately, you might not be able to make the Realme P4 Power your next phone though, as it is only launching in India on January 29. It remains to be seen if the phone will come to other regions.

But even if it doesn’t, keep an eye out for battery advancements on Android phones this year – your next phone should last more than a day on a charge if you go for a phone with silicon-carbon tech.
