New ‘outrageously good’ period drama with 90% on Rotten Tomatoes | Films | Entertainment

Lovers of the period genre will be pleased to hear that a new series has dropped and it is free to watch. Outrageous is a British historical drama that fans have described as “outrageously good”. The series is directed by Joss Agnew and Ellie Heydon and it stars Bessie Carter, Isobel Jesper Jones, James Purefoy, Anna Chancellor, Joanna Vanderham, Shannon Watson, Zoe Brough and Orla Hill. It follows the lives of the intriguing Mitford sisters.

The series’ synopsis reads: “Based on the true story of the Mitford sisters who played by their own rules – with sometimes devastating consequences. Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, Outrageous is inspired by the lives of the aristocratic Mitford sisters – six headstrong women who frequently made headlines around the world. Yet their lives would ultimately take very different paths – from Nancy who became a celebrated author and journalist, to Jessica who rejected her inherited privilege and dedicated her life to revolutionary causes. A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human.”

The new series has been hailed by the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, who have awarded it with an impressive 90% rating. Their consensus states: “Dramatizing one of Britain’s most controversial families with slick presentation and superb acting, Outrageous is an engaging glimpse into the corrosive lure of fascism.”

A viewer gave a glowing review of the series, hoping for a second season to land on our screens: “Absolutely brilliant. The casting is superb. Everyone of the sisters are played so well. Bessie Carter shines as narrator and as Nancy. The whole production from costumes, location etc is so good. Series 2 we hope!”

One reviewer said: “Just finished watching the last episode and it left me wanting more. Totally fascinating story, great writing and acting too, very enjoyable. Can’t wait for the second series to hit the screens, great stuff. Love it.”

“A great series, well acted and beautifully realised. It really draws you in and you want to know what happens next. The sort of drama the BBC used to make,” another added.

Outrageous is available to stream free of charge on U right now.
