New weather maps show exact date UK blasted with 450-mile wall of snow | Weather | News

A weather forecaster has warned of a massive snowstorm set to cover part of the UK, stretching around 450 miles from the Shetland Islands to southern Scotland.

This wall of snow is expected to hit on Friday, February 7, and its effects will last through the following week.

Snow will spread rapidly across Scotland as temperatures plummet to as low as -5°C in some areas.

On February 9, the maps show widespread blue and purple shades, indicating heavy precipitation with snow rates potentially exceeding 5 cm/hour in some regions.

On February 10, snowfall will escalate as the wall of snow pushes further south, blanketing Edinburgh.

Before the snow arrives, the UK faces wet and windy days.

Separately, Met Office’s long-range forecast said: “Cloud and periods of wet weather will probably affect north and north-western parts of the UK at times, particularly early in this period.

“Some heavy rain is possible which could be accompanied by some spells of strong winds.

“South of this, across the rest of the UK, it is likely to be more settled, and whilst some rain can’t be ruled out at times, it should be predominantly dry through this period, or certainly drier than it has been. Winds will be lighter, and this will bring the risk of mist freezing fog patches and overnight frosts.

Overall, temperatures will probably be close to normal for most, but it is likely to be quite mild at times over the north and northwest of the UK.

Residents across the UK should take early precautions before the snow wall hits by monitoring weather patterns daily and planning. Snow and ice will likely cause significant disruptions on the roads and railways.

Also, ensure your home is adequately heated and stock up on essentials.
