Newborn baby left abandoned in toilet as distraught cleaner heard cry | World | News

A baby who was left abandoned in the tank of a toilet just moments after birth has miraculously survived after a cleaner heard its cries just in the nick of time. The newborn girl was discovered after a confused housekeeper heard the cry of a child on the third floor of an office building in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday, November 15.

After tracking the muffled noises to some pipes near the toilet in the bathroom, the cleaner eventually lifted the lid of the toilet tank to find the minutes-old girl sitting in the covered container with water sitting in the bottom. According to Blue News, because she had been sitting in the half-filled container, the baby was pale and had gone wrinkly from the cold water.

Officials found her with her roughly cut umbilical cord still attached with conclusions being drawn that she had only just been born.

Local police were quickly called to the scene at 11am local time and began an investigation into her parents.

According to The Sun, under Thai law, the parents face just three years in prison, or a fine of only up to 6,000 baht, the equivalent to £140 for abandonment under Thai Penal Code Section 306.

Police Captain Kritsada Saikhong said: ‘The baby girl was under a day old. She was a newborn but there was no sign of the mother.

“We will proceed with the investigation to find who left the baby girl in the toilet. Officers are checking CCTV cameras to establish who was in the building and who used the bathroom.”

She was only six pounds when she discovered the newborn was quickly taken to  Sirindhorn Hospital for treatment, but local reports suggest the girl has made a miraculous recovery and escaped unharmed.
