The Oasis fan who tragically died during Liam and Noel Gallagher’s reunion tour was reportedly sitting in the upper tier of the stadium for the Saturday gig in Wembley Arena. Paramedics and police officers rushed to the concert, but the man, understood to be in his 40s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
One ticketholder, who was sitting in a lower tier, described how the tragedy unfolded to the publication. They said: “I was directly underneath in section 211. At first glance, I thought it was a coat falling from the above tier, but then I looked and saw the bloke on the concrete. It was horrific to see.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers at Wembley were called to reports that a man had been injured at around 10.19 pm on Saturday. They found the casualty with “injuries consistent with a fall”.
The force has been urging witnesses to come forward, or anyone who may unknowingly have caught it on their mobile phones, to contact them.
A statement from the police read:” Officers on duty at Wembley Stadium for the Oasis concert responded alongside venue medics and the London Ambulance Service to reports that a person had been injured. A man, aged in his 40s, was found with injuries consistent with a fall. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The stadium was busy, and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage. If you have any information that could help us to confirm what happened, please call 101, quoting 7985/02AUG.”
The highest seats in the 90,000-seat stadium are around 170ft above the ground.
Oasis said in a statement they were “shocked and saddened” to hear of the death of a fan adding “Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”
Oasis started their sell-out tour last month and are returning to Wembley Arena tonight for another concert.
Noel and Liam will continue their world tour on August 8 in Edinburgh, where they will perform for three nights.
They’ll be returning to Wembley on September 27 and September 28.
