Outlander season 8 adds 80s music icon for final series | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Outlander’s eighth season has revealed the inclusion of a Scottish legend for its final chapter, which is set to grace our screens in 2026 and will at last resolve a major mystery, reports the Daily Record.

In an exciting Instagram announcement on the programme’s official page, viewers were treated to their first glimpse of season eight’s opening credits. This update follows recent discussions from the series’ leading stars and executive producers Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe regarding Outlander’s conclusion and a first-look teaser.

The post was accompanied by the caption: “#Outlander ‘s final season begins with the voice of a Scottish icon. Introducing Season 8’s rendition of The Skye Boat Song performed by the one and only @officialannielennox.”

The Aberdeen-born legend shared the Outlander opening sequence on her Instagram Stories, penning: “Dear Friends, I’ve known and sung the historic Skye Boat Song since I was a little girl, so the invitation to record it for the last season of @outlander_starz felt like coming home!

“Working in the studio with Bear McCreary was a brilliant experience and hope we’ve given this beloved Scottish song the due love and reverence it truly deserves…”

“This one’s for Scotland and all the devoted fans of Outlander! Love Annie.”

Lennox’s involvement represents something of a return to roots for Outlander, which remains fundamentally a Scottish production despite the storyline’s shift to North Carolina. Scottish musical legend Lennox rose to fame through her collaboration with Dave Stewart in the 1980s as one half of Eurythmics.

Their most celebrated tracks include There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart) and Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).

From the 1990s, she pursued a solo career whilst championing political causes, donating earnings from her music to organisations such as Greenpeace and Amnesty International.

Outlander enthusiasts flocked to the comments beneath the video to express their excitement, with the official Starz account declaring: “late entry for our “most listened to” song of the year.”

Meanwhile, the official Visit Scotland account responded: “Àlainn [beautiful]. We are SO excited!”.

One fan pleaded: “@starz I hope we can purchase it soon ! ! Please” whilst another gushed: ” @starz beautiful beautiful! ! @officialannielennox.”

A third viewer exclaimed: “13 year old me has died and gone to heaven! Annie Lennox! ! !” as another commented: “I’m not crying you’re crying! Soulful and gritty, love it!”.

The updated opening sequence weaves together clips from earlier series with fresh material from the upcoming instalment, featuring a beehive situated near Fraser’s Ridge.

This beehive nods to Outlander writer Diana Gabaldon’s book Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, which provides the foundation for the eighth series.

Before Lennox, another 80s music icon, Sinéad O’Connor, lent her voice to the Outlander theme tune for its seventh season. This marked one of her final performances before her untimely passing in 2023.

Outlander season 8 will air on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video on March 6, 2026
