Pretty spot with award-winning pub and ‘world’s biggest ice cream parlour’ | UK | Travel

Tattenhall, a charming village surrounded by the expansive Cheshire countryside, is well worth a visit for the sweeping vistas alone, but this idyllic location has another feather in it cap. The town recently celebrated two of its most renowned enterprises sweeping up accolades at a prestigious local awards gala.

Popular family spot The Ice Cream Farm won ‘Visitor Attraction of The Year’ title at the 2025 Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards. Acclaimed for being “the UK’s only ice-cream themed family attraction” and boasting claims of housing “the world’s largest ice cream parlour”. Meanwhile, the Pheasant Inn pub clinched the ‘Taste of Cheshire Award’, further cementing Tattenhall’s reputation as a culinary and leisure hotspot.

The Ice Cream Farm delights kids and adults alike with an array of over 50 flavours served daily.

Adding to its unique offerings, the farm introduced what is reputedly the UK’s first ice cream drive-in two years back, only one of its multimillion-pound expansions. Today, it offers a comprehensive indoor and outdoor playpark that promises a full day of fun amidst nature, reports the Manchester Evening News.

And the accolades are coming thick and fast, as last summer the farm unveiled Honeycomb Canyon, staking its claim to the title of “Europe’s largest indoor sand and water play area”.

Located at the base of the Cheshire Plain, the venue offers a host of outdoor attractions for children. These include climbing equipment, an ‘ice cream tree’ that produces ‘snow’, regardless of the weather, and an ice cream-themed mini golf course.

Venturing higher up the Sandstone Ridge, you’ll find The Pheasant Inn pub at Higher Burwardsley. This establishment boasts breathtaking views across the Cheshire plains and as far as the Welsh Hills. It’s a popular stop-off point for cyclists and walkers due to its remote hillside location. The inn also offers hotel rooms for those wishing to extend their visit.

The Taste of Cheshire Award judges commended the pub’s varied menu, stating that the food was “tasty and cooked to perfection”. They also noted the inn’s cosy, friendly atmosphere and its immaculate cleanliness.

The Taste of Cheshire Award is the latest in a series of accolades for The Pheasant Inn, which is currently listed in the AA restaurant guide as a “popular pub with magnificent local views”.

For those seeking a more unique experience than a traditional pub stay, Tattenhall Marina offers an intriguing alternative. In 2022, the marina launched floating glamping pods, adding a new dimension to its already popular narrowboat offerings on the Shropshire Union Canal.

These floating huts feature modern interiors and floor-to-ceiling windows for amazing views of the surrounding water.

Tattenhall is conveniently located just eight miles from Chester city centre, approximately a 20-minute drive, and around 47 miles from Manchester, roughly an hour and ten minutes by car. The local train station closed in the 1950s, so the nearest main line train station is Chester. Buses from Chester travel to Tattenhall along the main A41, and during the summer months, shuttle buses can be booked directly to The Ice Cream Farm.
