Prince Harry and Meghan’s UK move talk after celeb pals ditch Trump’s America | Royal | News
Speculation is building on whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could return to the UK following Donald Trump’s inauguration this week.
Donald Trump previously expressed his disapproval of Prince Harry’s immigration status. Mr Trump told the Daily Express US in February 2024: “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen [Queen Elizabeth II]. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me.”
In September 2024, a US judge ruled Prince Harry’s visa application information would stay top secret as there was no need for it to be made public. This came after a conservative think tank in Washington questioned the royal’s eligibility to enter the US in 2020 after he discussed his legal drug use in his memoir, Spare.
The judge said Prince Harry’s application would remain sealed as “the public does not have a strong interest in disclosure of the Duke’s immigration records.”
Previously speaking on the podcast Palace Confidential, Editor at Large for The Mail on Sunday, Charlotte Griffiths, said: “I’m sure in some ways they wish they could follow suit and live in the Cotswolds with their fellow superstar A-list friends, especially because Trump has been elected.”
She continued: “The coverage of Ellen DeGeneres indicates that’s why she’s leaving the US. But I can’t see Meghan moving to the UK, even to follow her pal Ellen.”
The US presenter, known for hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2001 to 2022, recently bought a house in the Cotswolds with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
An insider told People Magazine: “Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October. She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after.”
Democrat Ellen had previously thrown her support behind Kamala Harris’ campaign and reportedly vowed to leave the US should Republican Donald Trump win. It seems she has followed through with her vow after the election took place.
Ellen and her wife previously lived in Montecito and were neighbours of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The TV host appeared so close to The Sussexes that they once took in one of her chickens that had an injury and needed to be relocated because of how the other chickens were treating her.
“Sinkie’s leg is fixed but our chickens were still picking on her so she had to be re-homed…” Ellen’s Instagram post read.
It continued: “Luckily our friends Harry and Meghan’s coop had room for one more. Not sure yet what her royal title will be. Thanks Dr Christine Sellers for your excellent care of Sinkie.”
