Princess Anne ‘amiable’ with Harry at Coronation as it wasn’t ‘the place’ to discuss rift | Royal | News

Princess Anne and Prince Harry were spotted in a surprise exchange during King Charles’s Coronation earlier this month. His aunt was one of the few senior members of the Royal Family the Duke of Sussex spoke to during his brief return to the UK. The pair were seen chatting and laughing ahead of the ceremony in Westminster Abbey. But a royal expert claimed the Princess Royal was “amiable” with her nephew because of the setting.

Speaking to OK! Royal expert, Jennie Bond said the Princess was likely “very unhappy” and “absolutely furious” with Harry but the Coronation “was neither the time nor the place” to discuss recent events, such as his tell-all memoir Spare and Netflix docu-series with wife Meghan Markle.

Ms Bond said: “It was entirely natural to stop and chat with her nephew with whom, I think, she got on pretty well over the years rather than cause some kind of public scene.

“It was better to be amiable but I am quite sure that deep down Anne has been absolutely furious with Harry for upsetting her mother, his grandmother, so much in her last years.

“And for all the allegations he’s made, I’m sure she’ll be very unhappy with them, but this was neither the time nor place to discuss all that, so I mean she I mean, they look very relaxed together.”

Ms Bond continued: “She would have just put things on one side a little bit but I’m sure she is angry at the damage he’s done to the royal reputation because she works so hard.

“I don’t know how strong the relationship between is but Anne works so damned hard, so hard for the constitutional monarchy and anything that damages it would make her very angry.”

Princess Anne is often referred to as the ‘hardest working royal’ due to the number of royal engagements she takes on every year.

Likening Anne to her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Ms Bond added that the Princess is a “very straight down the line and blunt” person and “doesn’t pretend anything”.

She said: “So when the family was imploding but she had a job to do, she could just put that to one side and get on with the job in hand. And I think Anne’s probably a little bit like that.”

Relations between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Royal Family, particularly King Charles and Prince William, have been strained since the couple stepped down as senior royals in March 2020.

The Coronation was the first time Harry had been seen with his father and brother since the release of his memoir and his stay in the UK was incredibly brief.

A lip-reading expert suggested Prince Harry and Anne spoke about their seating arrangements with Harry telling his aunt: “I don’t mind. Sit at the front.”

Following the service, Harry left the Abbey alone and got into a car to the airport as he reportedly flew straight back to California to be with his family.

Other royals he was spotted chatting to included Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

He also sat next to Jacks Brooksbank, husband to Princess Eugenie, with a lip reader claiming that Harry appeared to joke about his quick stay in the UK.

The lip reader, analysing the event for the Sunday Express, said Harry told Brooksbank “about quarter to four”, with Mr Brooksbank replying: “Oh really, when?”
