Princess Diana’s beloved hideaway on Mediterranean island on sale for £33 million | World | News
Tucked away in a luxury enclave on the Spanish island of Majorca lies an incredible castle that once served as a refuge for the late Diana, Princess of Wales, before her marriage to the then Prince Charles in 1981. The imposing villa, known as Yellow Castle, can be found near the exclusive fishing village of Puerto Andratx on the southwestern tip of the Balearic island, a port heralded for its luxurious bistros, waterside bars and high-end fashion labels.
Now, this incredible property is up for sale, with a hefty price tag of €38 million (£33 million). Majorca was a favourite spot for the late Princess Diana, who made multiple official and private visits before her death in 1997. Together with her husband before their divorce, she enjoyed four summer holidays at the Marivent Palace – the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family on the island – in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1990. She then returned for a fifth stay in 1996.
For those not willing to splash out the full price for this incredible mountain-view villa, guests can book out the entire seven-bed, 10-bathroom property on sites like Airbnb and Booking.com for £20,155 for five nights – over £4,000 per night – this December.
“Daffodil walls and a rocky peninsula fortify this estate near Puerto d’Andratx where Princess Diana once stayed – though today the villa is accessible by land or by sea,” its description on Airbnb reads. “Gardens lead up to a pool, hot tub, and terrace with shaded living and dining areas. Blue and white interiors feel fresh as a sea breeze. Explore the property’s private rock cave and drive down to shops and restaurants by the port.”
According to the listing, Yellow Castle stands on a 1.5-acre plot, with the building covering an area of over 15,000 square feet, boasting a pool, hot tub, private gym and sauna, and even its own free multistorey car park on the premises.
Among its most notable features, however, is its private grotto, which offers direct access to the sea.
Several people have been lucky enough to stay in the Yellow Castle, and have left raving reviews on the Airbnb listing, hosted by Unisono Luxury Homes.
“Fabulous villa! Amazing property with walkways everywhere. Would spend my mornings walking the grounds and loved the ability to jump straight into the sea,” one wrote. “Every room was spacious with own private bath and beautiful view. The pool was our favorite spot.”
Another said: “We had a wonderful stay at the Yellow Castle. The villa is gorgeous, and its location is exceptional. It has a rich history, which gives it great charm.”
The popularity of Yellow Castle has surged in recent years, thanks to its selection as a filming location for the popular Netflix series “The Crown”. In 2023, it was used to recreate some of the scenes linked to the life of the Royal Family.
