Queen in tears during major milestone for beloved family member | Royal | News
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands got emotional as she witnessed a major milestone in her daughter’s life last week. Her 22-year-old daughter, Princess Catharina-Amalia, completed her military training and they both attended a ceremony at the Dutch Ministry of Defence in Ermelo last Friday.
The Dutch heiress, otherwise known as the Princess of Orange, now has the rank of corporal. Maxima mingled with the other parents, wearing a cool grey coat, paired with a big scarf and black leather gloves.
She was pictured hugging her daughter, who wore her uniform proudly.
The royal house of the Netherlands said in a statement on Instagram: “The Princess of Orange has completed the General Military Training (AMO) and has been promoted to corporal.
“The AMO is part of the training she is following at the Defence College.”
The Palace clarified that Catharina-Amalia will now wear a military uniform when she carries out duties for the Ministry of Defence.
Catharina-Amalia came back strong after suffering an injury during a horse accident last year.
The heiress broke her arm and underwent surgery last summer.
She was treated at the University Medical Centre Utrecht hospital.
At the time, Maxima left an engagement with the MIND Us Foundation at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague early after hearing about the incident.
The Princess of Orange is the eldest of three daughters to King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.
The Dutch royal household states on its website the royal’s pastimes are horse riding, tennis and singing.
On her 18th birthday, she automatically became a member of the Council of State and its Advisory Division.
