Quentin Tarantino’s ‘finest and best’ film airing on Channel 4 tonight | Films | Entertainment

Widely considered to be one of Quentin Tarantino’s filmography ‘greats’, Django Unchained is a 2012 Western film written and directed by the maestro himself.

Fans of the legendary filmmaker will be happy to know that Django Unchained will be airing on television tonight, November 15, at 10pm on Channel 4.

Making up the incredible lead cast of the film are Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio, joined by the stellar Kerry Washington, and Samuel L Jackson alongside Walton Goggins, Dennis Christopher, James Remar, Michael Parks, and Don Johnson.

The film’s official plot says: “Two years before the Civil War, Django, a slave, finds himself accompanying an unorthodox German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz on a mission to capture the vicious Brittle brothers. Their mission successful, Schultz frees Django, and together they hunt the South’s most-wanted criminals. Their travels take them to the infamous plantation of shady Calvin Candie, where Django’s long-lost wife is still a slave.”

Django Unchained grossed a staggering $449.8 million at the global box office against a production budget of $100 million and also garnered heaps of critical acclaim — winning Tarantino the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and Waltz the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Boasting an impressive 92 per cent audience approval rating and 87 per cent critics approval rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Django Unchained went down well with audiences and critics alike.

While one reviewer writes: “Django Unchained is still one of Quentin Tarantino’s finest works to date thanks to an excellent, extremely memorable script and a brilliant cast.”

Another critic says of the movie: “By tackling a massive western, the writer and director continues to prove that he has never been short on ambition and gives us his grandest spectacle yet.”

One impressed reviewer said: “Packed with thrilling gunfights, tense drama, memorable quippy dialogue, and an impressive collection of breakout performances (minus Tarantino’s weird cameo), Django Unchained easily ranks among the very best films Tarantino has ever produced.”

A fourth reviewer simply adds: “Django Unchained is a must see, full stop. At the very least, films like this are an experience.”

Fans of the film were also abundant in their praise, with one saying: “I absolutely loved Django Unchained. It’s one of Tarantino’s best—bold, stylish, and unflinchingly confident in both its storytelling and tone. From the very first scene, it pulls you into a brutal, beautifully shot revenge story that’s equal parts thrilling, funny, and deeply satisfying.

“The blend of spaghetti western and southern gothic is handled masterfully, giving the film a unique personality that feels both classic and completely fresh.”

Another viewer, in a glowing review, wrote: “Oh god this movie is a masterpiece. Everything is perfect, the acting, cinematography, brutality, dialogue. Oh yeah, and Leonardo DiCaprio was fantastic.”

While one fan couldn’t stop gushing about the masterful performances by the lead cast: “Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, and Samuel L Jackson produced some of the best acting I have ever seen.”
