Roy Keane pays tribute to mum Marie as Man Utd icon supported | Football | Sport

A notice on RIP.ie confirmed the news on Friday, saying she will be “sadly missed by her loving family, sisters Ina, Annette and Josephine, brothers Jack, Leo, Michael and Noel, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law Linda, Theresa and Mary, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, her great neighbours and friends.”

Roy was close to his mother and often travelled home to see her. He shared a photograph of the two of them on one such visit, claiming she was ‘the only boss he’d listen to.’

He reiterated that message on social media on Saturday evening, captioning a photo: “You’ll always be the boss.”

David Beckham was among the former Man United stars to leave a message of support for Keane, commenting with a love heart emoji, along with Gary Neville.

Keane’s former international teammate Robbie Keane was one of those to send their wellwishes, commenting with a loveheart emoji and a prayer emoji.

Keane had been due to work as a pundit on ITV for England’s friendly with Uruguay at Wembley Stadium on Friday night, but was withdrawn.

Presenter Mark Pougatch took a moment to send his best wishes to Keane. He said: “Everyone here and all of us at ITV sends our condolences to Roy and his family on the sad passing of his mother Marie.

“All of our thoughts are with the Keane family this evening.”
