Donald Trump’s claim King Charles would take a different position on the war in Iran has been met with a firm response from Buckingham Palace. The US President told The Telegraph he believed the monarch would “have taken a very different stand” on the conflict than the UK Government.

The US leader described the King as a “wonderful and brave man” who has “been through a lot” ahead of the monarch’s state visit to the USA later this month. In response to Mr Trump‘s suggestion, Charles’s stance would differ from that of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. A Buckingham Palace source told the Daily Beast, “The King is above politics.”
