Royal fans divided as Meghan Markle rocks complete style change | Royal | News

hairstyle has been described as “breathtakingly stunning” as she rocked a surprising new look during her first engagement in Nigeria with .

The couple flew into Abuja from Heathrow on Friday morning and later arrived at the Wuse Lightway Academy dressed in casual summer clothes.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a floor-length dress by California-based designer Heidi Merrick, the “Windsor” gown in Blush, acessorised with gold jewellery.

Her flowing brunette locks were loosely pulled back in a fishtail-style braid, a departure from her usual sleek waves or the pulled-back bun she often rocks – but royal fans were divided, with some praising her new hairstyle as others criticised an apparent fashion “blunder”.

One devoted Sussex fan online praised the look on X, writing “Meghan looks breathtakingly stunning today! The whole look is absolutely perfect, and I love how she did her hair.”

They then posted later: “I’m still not over this look and how gorgeous Meghan was yesterday! She is a Disney Princess come to life.”

Some royal fashion watchers however commented that the dress was too long, as the hem dragged on the floor, and that it should have been more tailored, with some claiming it looked crumpled.

One person commented on X: “How difficult is it to get things hemmed? I must be a genius as I have about the same height as Meghan and just a fraction of her budget or influence, yet manage to get things routinely tailored to fit.”

Another said: “That outfit is a disgrace, what is wrong with her”, while a third pointed out: “I agree, the dress is appalling. It doesn’t fit it hasn’t been fitted and it is inappropriate for the occasion.”

The Duchess later changed into a chic white suit as she and Harry later headed to the city’s Defence Headquarters, where the Duke appeared to take part in an inspection of the troops.

Afterwards Harry and Meghan will reunite for a reception, giving them the opportunity to meet with families and loved ones of soldiers killed in action, and other service members.

Sunday May 12 is their last full day in Nigeria and will see them travel to Lagos, the country’s biggest city, to visit Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and attend a “basketball clinic” called Giants of Africa, held at a local school.

The visit has been hugely significant for the Duchess getting in touch with her roots, as an ancestry test revealed she is 43 percent Nigerian.
