Russia burns as huge fire rips through port after Ukraine drone attack | World | News
Russia’s largest Black Sea port was targeted in a massive drone attack that sparked a huge fire at an oil facility. Ukraine’s army continues to pound key Russian energy infrastructure, as well as military-industrial sites.
Kyiv is trying to stop Russia cashing in on its oil exports, which help it to fund its brutal war in Ukraine. In the latest devastating attack, Ukrainian special forces inflicted major damage on Novorossiysk, a key energy hub. The attacks damaged loading stands, pipeline infrastructure, and pumping systems.
A massive fire erupted after drones struck the Sheskharis oil-loading terminal, with giant flames leaping into the night’s sky.
Over 100 firefighters were deployed to the port to battle the flames for more than two hours.
A senior Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) source confirmed the attack on the oil complex.
They told the Kyiv Post: “The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the Security and Defence Forces, continues to reduce oil dollar revenues to the Russian budget.
“Every oil refinery or oil terminal that is hit means millions of dollars less for the Kremlin’s war machine. We will continue to deprive the aggressor of resources until it loses the ability to wage this war.”
As a result of the overnight bombardment, Novorossiysk’s port was forced to stop handling oil shipments.
The Sheskharis facility is one of the largest oil trans-shipment hubs in southern Russia.
It receives, stores, and exports crude and refined products, handling a significant share of Russia’s seaborne Urals oil shipments.
The complex includes 30 crude-oil tanks with a total capacity of 820,000 cubic meters, along with multiple reservoirs for fuel oil and diesel.
A civilian vessel was also hit in the port, while several apartment buildings were damaged by falling debris from drones.
