A chilling threat to strike on Europe has been issued by a major Vladimir Putin mouthpiece. It came on Russian state TV show, “The Evening with Vladimir Solovyov,” where the host was focused on the furious row between Denmark and US President Donald Trump over the ownership of Greenland, and what that could mean for the rest of Europe.
Taking aim at the Ukrainian president, presenter Vladimir Solovyov said: “Zelensky thought he’d have a nice meeting in Davos, but Trump clearly demonstrated that Zelensky is of no interest to him […] Zelensky was told, either you agree to these conditions, or goodbye. The banter is over. Zelensky made his choice, he is with Europe.” The Russian propagandist and mouthpiece of the Kremlin went on to add that because of this, he could not “rule out an alliance between Russia and the US”. “We will be fighting [Europe] very differently. They no longer have an American [nuclear] umbrella,” he added. “More than that, an example of Greenland gives Ukrainians an opportunity to figure out what happens next.”

“Trump says, ‘Greenland has this opportunity, they may face aggression’. It may seem like you have a treaty with Denmark, go ahead and fulfil your obligations, but Trump says, ‘Why would we defend them, if they aren’t a part of us?’
“Ukraine will never be a part of America. None of the European countries will ever be America.
“Basically, we can choose to strike any part of Europe. Americans won’t retaliate.”
Another subject of Solovyov’s attacks was the President of the European Commission and her comments as we approach the four-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine: ” What we’re seeing right now are attacks on our peaceful cities,” he said.

“Ursula von der Leyen suddenly said that one month from now, it will be four years of horrific aggression. Seriously? This is horrific aggression? Right now, we once again destroyed the remnants of their energy system. By and large, Kyiv turned into a dead city and we will finish it off. Once again, I say, leave Kyiv! Leave Kyiv.”
Following the latest Russian strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure last week, more than 1,300 apartment buildings in the capital were still without heating, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said on Sunday (January 25). Russia also launched a vast attack on Saturday, leaving 1.2 million properties without power nationwide during sub-zero temperatures.
“Russia’s main targets right now are our energy sector, critical infrastructure, and residential buildings,” Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on X, adding that last week Russia had launched more than 1,700 attack drones, over 1,380 guided aerial bombs and 69 missiles on Ukraine.
Solovyov went on to ask: “Meanwhile, how many civilians died from this?” to which former Ukrainian politician, Igor Markov, replied: “Not many”.

Taking a swipe at UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Stamer’s plan for a “Caolition of the Willing” to keep the peace in Ukraine, Solovyov then asked: “After Trump demonstrated this kind of stance, what kind of Coalition of the Willing can there be? The main condition of the existence is that their forces will be on the ground and Americans will protect the skies. Americans have just demonstrated that they aren’t going to protect anything. Now, Europe is taking it on. Sure, go ahead.”
Since March 2025, several countries, led by the UK and France, have been working to develop this coalition to defend any peace deal that is eventually agreed in Ukraine. Earlier this month, Sir Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron signed a Declaration of Intent with Ukraine to deploy ground forces in the event of an agreement. However, the issue over Greenland has become a major elephant in the room during recent discussions.
Turning to attack Ukraine and how to “deal with” members of the country’s political circles, Markov said: “We should have only one dilemma in how to deal with members of the Ukrainian political circles: who should be shot and who should be hanged. This is for those who don’t surrender. The ones who do surrender we will put on trial […] The blood of our guys is on all their hands. Our guys from beyond the grave won’t forgive us if we forgive even one of these roadkills. If we talk to any of these roadkills about anything.”
