Samsung’s excellent Macbook rival laptop is now much more affordable
One of the best Windows laptops I’ve ever used is currently on sale, and if you’re shopping on a budget for a new computer, it could prove an excellent investment. The Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge is a performant PC with a large, clear screen, and it’s down to £479 at Currys – a massive £320 saving on its £799 RRP.
The computer has a 15.6-inch Full HD screen, runs the Snapdragon X X1-26-100 Processor and boasts up to 27 hours of battery life. In my use of another (more powerful) version of this laptop, I found you won’t get anything close to that claim, but I have used it comfortably for an eight hour work day on battery power without having to reach for the charger.
The Snapdragon X chip brings much better performance than older chips in laptops I’ve tested over the years, and it’s the reason you’ll get great battery life thanks to improved efficiency.
For £479 you’ll get a PC with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage, plus a full size keyboard with numberpad – there’s space for one thanks to the expansive display. This is quite large, so make sure there’s room in your bag, but the pay off is that large battery and a screen that doesn’t feel too cramped, even with two windows open side by side.
Despite the big screen, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge is pleasingly slim and light, at just 15mm at its thinnest point and only 1.5kg. That screen has an anti-glare coating so you won’t be squinting away if you’re working at an outdoor cafe in the sun, and the device even offers a great selection of ports – HDMI 2.1, two USB-C 4.0 ports, one USB-A, microSD, plus a headphone jack.

That’s rare to see these days, and it’s one of the main reasons I enjoyed using the laptop so much. The keyboard is also comfortable to type on for long periods, though I’d like a tiny bit more travel – they are on the clicky side if anything. But the trackpad is large and responsive, and among the best I’ve used on a Windows 11 machine. You also get a fingerprint scanner built into the power button that can be used for signing in and for authenticating purchases.
And because this is a Windows computer, you’ll get excellent link up with an Android phone thanks to Link to Windows, which lets you reply to messages and even run full apps from your phone on the desktop. Better still, if you have a Samsung phone, you can use it as a webcam, which will give you better resolution than the one built into the laptop lid.
Quick Share connectivity also means you can share files quickly between phone and laptop – much like Apple fans harp on about with AirDrop.
If you’re due a laptop upgrade, or if your old machine can’t upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 as it’s a little long in the tooth, this Samsung laptop is a great choice, especially for this sub-£500 sale price.
