A number of major high street banks are set to shut as the series of summer closures continues. It is reported that 41 banks are set to close in July alone, with the vast majority being Santander. The high street bank will see a total of a huge 38 branches permantely shut its doors, with the Daily Express creating a map so you can see which branches are closing in your local area

It comes after Santander announced this year that it will be getting rid of 95 branches from June, due to customers prefering to bank online as opposed to in real life. The change in banking habits has impacted a string of high street banks, including Natwest, Lloyds Bank and Halifax.

May saw 69 banks close, and in June there were around 85. Another 13 banks are expected to close in August, with 21 scheduled in September. By the end of 2025, the nation would have lost 399 branches.

While the mass closures have hit every region of the UK, Cornwall will be hit the worst but the latest round of closures, with four branches set to shut in July.

Santander has stated that they will be introducing Community Bankers to visit spaces such as libraries and community halls to help those that need it with their banking.

A Santander spokespersons said: “Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may have on our customers.

“However, we believe that the introduction of our new Community Bankers and the exciting plans we have for our remaining network of 349 branches and Work Cafés, alongside the rapid and innovative improvements to our award-winning mobile banking app, will provide the right balance of digital banking and human interaction when required.”
