Drivers on the M48 are facing heavy Easter Monday traffic, with the Severn Bridge closed in both directions. National Highways said the major bridge in Gloucestershire is currently closed in both directions between J1 (Aust) and J2 (Chepstow).

The closure is in place to allow South West Ambulance Service and Avon & Somerset Police to work at the scene of an “ongoing incident”. Traffic is being diverted via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.
