One person was shot and in critical condition Tuesday in a shooting involving the Border Patrol near the US-Mexico border, authorities in Arizona said. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it was working with the FBI and US Customs and Border Protection in response to the shooting in Arivaca a community about 10 miles from the border.

The Santa Rita Fire District said it responded to the shooting and the person who was wounded was in custody. “Patient care was transferred to a local medical helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center,” the fire district said.

The shooting involved a Border Patrol agent and a suspect, according to the Arizona Daily Star, which was told the information by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The FBI requested assistance from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to lead the use-of-force investigation involving the agent and is conducting a parallel investigation, the department said, according to CNN.

“We ask the community to remain patient and understanding as this investigation moves forward,” said Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

“PCSD will thoroughly examine all aspects of the incident, however, these investigations are complex and require time.”

It comes after protests erupted in Minneapolis after the fatal shooting by ICE agents of 37-year-old intensive care nurse Alex Pretti on Saturday.

It was the second fatal shooting of a US citizen by immigration officers in the city in less than three weeks.

Donald Trump said on Monday that his administration is “reviewing everything” after the incident.
