Spain: Horror as severed foot washes up at holiday spot loved by Brits | World | News

A gruesome discovery was made on a Spanish island frequented by British tourists. A severed human foot and lower leg was washed ashore on a popular stretch of coastline in Majorca.

The body parts were found near Can Pastilla, close to Playa de Palma, just hours after a woman’s body was washed up in the same area. A tourist stumbled across the frightful find near a busy nightclub on the beach. The holidaymaker quickly alerted local authorities after discovering the remains, yet the foot had washed back out to sea by the time officers arrived at the scene.

However, divers were swiftly deployed and successfully recovered the foot, as well as finding a tibia and fibula in the sea. Despite the short time between the body parts and the woman’s body being washed up, Spanish investigators determined that the remains were too large to belong to the person found before.

Based upon the size of the foot and leg bones, authorities believe that they belonged to a man. A post mortem has now been ordered by the Spanish National Police to confirm the person’s identity.

Shockingly, this marks the 10th time a body or body parts have washed up on the coastline of the Balearic Islands since the beginning of the year – this includes the popular tourist hotspots of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza.

Local authorities believe the disturbing pattern of discoveries belong to migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea by a small boat.

Two other bodies were discovered in the Mallorcan towns of Cala Ratjada and Cala Deia with four more people found on the Island of Formentera.

The chilling string of bodies found has raised serious concerns about the danger of crossing the sea with the aim of reaching European shores.

Spanish Police believe all victims were migrants attempting to illegally enter Europe from Algeria. The authorities also believe that small boats or rafts were used.
