Spectacular clip shows moment saboteurs set fire to Russian railway track | World | News

A video circulating on social media has shown an electrical substation by a railway track in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai in flames as the result of what a Ukrainian blogger claimed was an act of sabotage.

The clip, shared by Supernova, shows fierce flames – although no other details are provided apart from the location Absheronsk – and a description (“sabotage”).

Nevertheless, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the country has experienced a notable increase in such incidents targeting critical infrastructure.

Such acts have primarily focused on railways, military enlistment centres, and energy facilities.

Between January and May 2023 alone, at least 57 such attacks were publicly reported, more than doubling the number from the same period in the previous year.

In Krasnodar Krai, a region in southern Russia, several significant sabotage events have been reported.

In July 2023, a drone attack damaged a cell tower in Krasnodar, causing disruptions in communication services.

Additionally, in June 2023, explosions were reported in the region, including at a facility in Tikhoretsk, which Ukrainian sources identified as one of Russia’s largest ammunition depots.

These incidents highlight the increasing reach and impact of sabotage activities within Russian territory since the onset of the Ukraine conflict.

The attacks have not only targeted military assets but have also aimed at disrupting critical infrastructure, thereby challenging Russia’s internal security measures.

The rise in such activities underscores the complex and evolving nature of the conflict, with implications for both regional stability and international security dynamics.
