Spurs appoint Igor Tudor as new head coach as Thomas Frank dig aimed | Football | Sport

Igor Tudor has been announced as the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, in the wake of Thomas Frank’s sacking on Wednesday morning. Tudor will be under consideration to take the job permanently in the summer, the Express understands.

He will be in charge on Monday when the players return from their days off following the FA Cup exit, ahead of the north London derby against Arsenal next Sunday (February 22). Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi remain in contention for the permanent role, with the club expected to review their options at the end of the season.

Spurs appeared to take a sly dig at Frank and his methods in their statement announcing Tudor’s arrival. “His mandate is straightforward – bring organisation, intensity and competitive edge to the squad at a decisive stage of the campaign,” a statement on the club’s website said, insinuating that Spurs lacked that under Frank.

Tudor said: β€œIt is an honour to join this club at an important moment. I understand the responsibility I have been handed and my focus is clear. To bring greater consistency to our performances and compete with conviction in every match. There is strong quality in this playing squad, and my job is to organise it, energise it and improve our results quickly.”

As for Tudor, he arrives in north London with more than a decade of coaching experience under his belt, having previously managed PAOK, Galatasaray, Marseille, Lazio and, most recently, Juventus. He is now tasked with turning the tide in north London, with Spurs languishing in 16th place in the Premier League and staring at the prospect of a relegation battle.

The 47-year-old will now prepare his first-team ahead of his Tottenham managerial debut, which comes in the form of the North London Derby against title favourites Arsenal on Sunday. It comes after Spurs parted ways with Frank on Wednesday following a turbulent eight-month stint with the club.

Despite thriving with Brentford ahead of his arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Dane managed to make a mark with the Lilywhites. Ultimately, he left following one of the club’s most challenging periods in recent history, going eight Premier League matches without a victory.

An official statement from the club on Frank read: “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment – giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”
