Spurs sent Thomas Frank sack verdict with relegation claim | Football | Sport
Tottenham Hotspur have received a definitive assessment regarding Thomas Frank’s future at the club following their loss to Newcastle United. Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Magpies on Tuesday evening in the Premier League in north London.
Newcastle opened the scoring with a goal shortly before the interval from Malick Thiaw, having also seen a Joe Willock effort ruled out for offside mere minutes beforehand.
Archie Gray drew Spurs level in the second half, but Newcastle restored their advantage through a Jacob Ramsey strike to inflict another defeat on Frank’s team. The result leaves Tottenham languishing in 16th position in the Premier League standings, merely five points clear of the relegation zone, which has intensified speculation surrounding Frank’s future at the club, reports football.london.
Frank’s future became a subject of discussion amongst pundits following the final whistle of the Newcastle defeat. Former striker Les Ferdinand highlighted the response from the home crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as an indicator of their feelings regarding the situation.
“You heard the groans at the end of the game,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports. “The boos were very loud and they have been audible all season.
“A lot of fans have lost faith in what Thomas Frank is doing here.”
Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle also appeared on TNT Sports, offering his assessment on Frank’s future at the club and Spurs’ predicament this campaign.
“You’ve got to say what it is and they are in a relegation fight,” Hoddle said. “The players have to understand that and the fans have to understand that. It is the reality and you have to scrap for every single point.”

Former Premier League goalkeeper Tim Krul shared Hoddle’s view that Tottenham are facing in a relegation battle for the rest of the season. “Tottenham are right in it [relegation battle],” Krul told BBC Radio 5Live. “They are three points above the line at the moment. They need to seriously look at themselves in the mirror. There needs to be serious changes now.”
When quizzed about his future as Tottenham manager following the Newcastle defeat, Frank expressed his confidence that he would remain in charge for the club’s upcoming fixture against Arsenal in the North London Derby this weekend.
“I’m convinced I will still be in charge [for the Arsenal game],” Frank said on Tuesday night. “I understand the question and I understand it’s easy to point on me but I also think it’s never only the head coach or the ownership or the directors or the players or the staff. It’s everyone.
“If you do something right, you build something that can last. Of course we are not in a top position now. Everyone knows, directors, ownership, myself, what position we are in, what we need to improve and what we need to do better. That is what we are working very hard on.”
