Taylor Fritz shares what he won’t do for influencer girlfriend Morgan Riddle – ‘No chance’ | Tennis | Sport
Taylor Fritz has cemented himself as one of the world’s best players in recent years, winning Indian Wells, reaching the US Open, and becoming a mainstay in the top 10. While the American has been busy on the court, his girlfriend, Morgan Riddle, has been very busy off it.
A social media influencer, Riddle has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers and gives fans an insight into life on the tennis tour. The 28-year-old has made it her mission to attract new, younger fans to the sport, and she has Fritz’s full support. However, there is one thing he has refused to do on her platforms.
In a new joint interview with GQ, the world No. 4 voiced his support for Riddle’s social media career. “I’d much rather have Morgan travel with me and do what she’s doing: one, push the sport of tennis, and two, make money doing it,” Fritz explained.
“Morgan knows not to do anything that could be a distraction to what I’m doing. Sometimes, if it’s not a distraction, she’ll ask me to do some kind of trend. Most of the time, I’ll be like, ‘That’s kind of cringe. I don’t want to do it.’ ”
While Fritz is happy to appear in Riddle’s videos and even participate in the odd social media trend, he has set one clear boundary.
“He won’t lip-synch for a video. That’s his number one rule,” Riddle explained. Fritz added: “No chance. I will see that everywhere on social media.”
The tennis schedule is relentless – something that has been a hot topic among players in recent months – and the athletes’ partners must essentially spend long periods of time apart, or join them on the tour.
Riddle decided to join Fritz on the tour, and she soon turned it into a career of her own. The former English literature student explained: “Right from the jump, it was like: Here’s my life dating a tennis player. This is what it’s like travelling the world 35 weeks out of the year.
“Tennis WAGs in the past were relatively private. Not only WAGs, but players too – the travel, the hotels, the players’ lounges, it was very walled off to everyone. All those private spaces were really private, and I started blasting them on TikTok. People were interested in it.”
Riddle has since branched out of tennis, sharing some vlogs from Formula One races this year. The 28-year-old attended the Mexican GP this weekend, but continued to cheer Fritz on from afar as he headed to Paris for the final Masters 1000 tournament of the year.
Fritz beat qualifier Aleksandar Vukic 7-6(4) 6-2 in his opening match, and is now through to the last 16. He’s also qualified for the ATP Finals for the third time in his career.
