Tennis LIVE: ATP slammed over Dubai plan as Medvedev finally escapes | Tennis | Sport

The PTPA have released a statement regarding player travel costs amid the Middle East conflict, which has impacted players travelling from the United Arab Emirates.

“The Professional Tennis Players Association has been deeply concerned by the decision to proceed with tournament play in Fujairah despite ongoing safety concerns,” it started.

“Players were asked to compete under difficult and uncertain circumstances. Now, in the aftermath of cancelling the tournament, the ATP is offering players the option of a charter flight at 5,000 euros per person, to be paid out of pocket, so they can leave the country. We believe it is inappropriate for players to bear additional financial burdens resulting from circumstances beyond their control.

“Player safety and welfare must be the priority at all times. When events are maintained amid heightened risk, the responsibility for ensuring safe and reasonable travel arrangements should not fall solely on the athletes.

“In response, the PTPA is offering to reimburse players up to 2,500 euros each to be able to leave the UAE. We are taking this step to ensure that no player is forced to choose between their safety and their financial stability.

“We call on the ATP to join us and cover the remaining 2,500 euro per player and work collaboratively toward solutions that put players first. PTPA.”
