The beautiful little island country where locals want more to visit | World | News

Fiji, an idyllic island nation in the South Pacific, is experiencing a surge in tourist interest, particularly from the UK. Unlike many tourist hotspots grappling with over-tourism, Fiji is eager to welcome more visitors to its shores.

The beautiful little country has seen a remarkable increase in UK tourists, with numbers rising by 20% in February 2024 compared to the same month in 2023.

The first quarter of 2024 also shows a 14.7% rise in UK visitors compared to the previous year. On a global scale, the island’s tourism has bounced back stronger than pre-pandemic levels. February 2024 witnessed a 15.8% increase in arrivals, totaling 54,732 visitors, surpassing the figures of February 2020.

Jane West, Tourism Fiji’s regional director for the UK and Europe, expressed her delight at these numbers. She said: “We are delighted to see our numbers exceeding pre-pandemic levels and are thankful to our trade partners in contributing to the UK traveller’s interest in Fiji”, she said.

“Renewed airlift via Japan and Hong Kong, as well as a new connection via Vancouver has boosted these numbers and given travellers increased options for contrasting twin-centre holidays.”

To cater to the rising demand, Fiji has introduced several new accommodations and experiences throughout the archipelago. These cater to a wide range of budgets and tastes, ensuring that every traveler finds something to enjoy.

Significant openings include the Waya Island Resort, an adults-only property in the Mamanuca Islands, and the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa, which opened on February 1st following a multi-million-dollar renovation.

These new developments, alongside ongoing renovations and enhancements, are set to further elevate Fiji as a premier tourist destination. The island nation is also targeting a five to seven percent growth in tourist arrivals from India, focusing on honeymooners and family travelers through targeted marketing campaigns and leveraging digital platforms.

Fiji’s appeal lies in its stunning natural beauty, rich culture, and warm hospitality. The country offers a unique blend of experiences, from pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters to vibrant local traditions and luxurious resorts.

With its commitment to sustainable tourism and community development, Fiji also ensures that the benefits of tourism reach all its residents. The government’s proactive approach in expanding tourism infrastructure and promoting the destination globally has played a crucial role in attracting more visitors.

As Fiji continues to welcome more tourists, it remains dedicated to preserving its natural environment and cultural heritage. Sustainable tourism practices are at the forefront of its development strategy, ensuring that the island remains a beautiful and inviting destination for generations to come.
