Arraial d’Ajuda in Brazil offers stunning views across the coast and is a perfect destination for those looking for some winter sun, with temperatures reaching 30C in February.

As well as being the perfect beach getaway, the town also boasts a rich history, with one of the oldest Catholic churches Nossa Senhora d’Ajuda nearby.

The town features beautiful architecture, with colourful homes and plenty of green space. Beach Mucugê is one of the most popular hangout spots, with palm trees lining the beach and natural pools of warm water.

It is the closest beach to the town and makes a perfect spot for a beach day. The sea here is calm thanks to a natural barricade provided by offshore coral reefs.

And according to Booking.com’s annual Traveller Review Awards, it takes first place for having some of the “friendliest locals” in the world.

Writing on Tripadvisor, one person said: “It’s very chic and the entire area gets busy in December.” Another added: “This is a beautiful area. There are lots of options for accommodation, restaurants, beach clubs and parties.”

Set in the municipality of Porto Seguro, it’s not hard to see why. The town is known for tourism, making it the main economic activity of the district.

Other towns are said to be a bit more lively, but for those hoping to rest and recharge this is the perfect spot to do so.

There are plenty of restaurants nearby offering a taste of traditional Brazilian cuisine. There is also plenty of seafood on offer as well as exotic dishes.
