The beautiful UK beach just 4 miles from famous seaside town but has hardly any tourists | Travel News | Travel

This beautiful beach in Cornwall has been dubbed one of the best but is often much quieter than more popular ones nearby.

Porthtowan Beach – regarded as one of the most family-friendly in Cornwall – features soft, golden sand and crystal clear waters perfect for a beach day.

And located just four miles from the popular town St Agnes, many miss out on visiting this hidden gem thanks to its close proximity to other more popular spots.

But it remains a firm local favourite, perfect for sports or surfing. The beach is home to a range of unique caves, with pretty cliffs and even lifeguard cover during peak months.

It also lies along Cornwall’s iconic South West Coast Path – meaning plenty of walkers will stumble across it while hiking along the clifftops.

Porthotowan has a rich history dating back to the 18th century, first famous for being a mining town. But the industry was not to last in the area, eventually transforming into a holiday destination.

And though some people opt for more popular towns nearby, Porthotowan still sees its fair share of holidaymakers come summer.

With plenty of self-catering accommodation and caravan sites nearby, there is endless options for those hoping to explore the stunning beach.

It also has a scattering of shops nearby, making it the perfect spot to set up for the day without having to bring endless supplies.

It also received the prestigious Blue Flag award in 2005 for its cleanliness. For those hoping to visit with their dogs, there is a seasonal dog ban in place between May 15 and September 30.

But the ban is only in place between 10am and 6pm, meaning they can still join in for the sunrise and sunset walks that are viewed from the beach.

As it is west facing, the beach is well regarded for its swell, meaning surfers from all over the world travel to experience the waves first hand.

And with RNLI lifeguards patrolling during busy months, it’s a safe spot to go swimming.
