The gorgeous seaside city best for British tourists hunting winter sun | Travel News | Travel

While in the UK we have to wait for temperatures to rise enough to make a trip to beach enjoyable, there are many destinations in Europe to which we can escape if feeling impatient. Spain’s Alicante, which is only a few hours away by plane, is the perfect location for UK holidaymakers who want to escape the cold weather. The port city located on the Costa Blanca offers unspoilt beaches, incredible food and vibrant culture – all the things you look for when it comes to booking that ideal getaway.

With a coastline stretching around 200 kilometres, anyone who visits is spoiled for choice when it comes to beaches. Along the sandy stretches also lies hidden bays and incredible bathing places with high cliffs and sea colours that will take your breath away. Each beach offers something unique meaning you can visit as many as you like and not get tired whatsoever.

As Alicante’s climate is warm all-year round it means you do not have to wait until summer time to make sure of its gorgeous beaches. In March, the city sees temperatures go up to 18C, meaning you can enjoy the warmth without it being too much.

As well as its charming beach and lovely climate, Alicante is a bustling city that has so many things to explore, from its golf courses to the cultural landmarks. The land is full of experiences that everyone can enjoy.

The city boasts a number of incredible sights which highlights both the city’s heritage and beauty. One of the most notable ones is the Castle of Santa Barbara which stands on 166 metres high on Mount Benacantil and dates back to the 9th century.

On TripAdvisor, one visitor described their visit as “one of the highlights of our holiday.”

They added: “The views from the top were breathtaking and well worth the wait, looking over the marina and old town. You can wander around the ruins and displays at leisure. There is also a cafe and toilets. This is a must-see for visitors to Alicante.”

If you’re up for some adventure than why not take a boat to the island of Tabaraca which is renowned for its marine reserve but also has a fascinating as it was once used as a pirate lair up until the end of the 18th century.

And it doesn’t stop there, from playing sports on the beach, cycling along its 150 kilometres of bike paths or having a picnic in one of the city’s many lush parks or gardens, Alicante is the perfect destination for Brits to take advantage of some winter sun
