The hardest working royal of 2024 – the result might not surprise you | Royal | News

The Princess Royal has retained the top spot as the hardest-working royal, having racked up 217 engagements in 2024.

Princess Anne, known to be the ‘no-nonsense’ royal, completed 31 more official engagements this year than her elder brother King Charles, who carried out 186 – despite his undergoing cancer treatment over the last year.

The research, which was conducted by Reboot SEO company, is based on entries published in the Court Circular, The Telegraph reports.

The Duke of Gloucester and Prince Edward came in joint third, completing 126 engagements, while Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, followed in fifth place with 124 engagements.

Princess Anne came out top, despite briefly taking a break in June after she was hurt by a horse and suffered a concussion. The incident happened at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, and the princess was taken to Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

Prince Williamcompleted 71 engagements in 2024, while Princess Kate undertook just 11.

The Prince of Wales spoke openly about the Firm’s health scares in an interview while in South Africa last month, saying 2024 has “probably been the hardest year in my life”.

Not only does Princess Anne work hard at her many engagements, the royal is known for her interest in horses and achievements in equestrian sports, becoming the first member of the Royal Family to compete in the Olympics in Montreal in 1976.

As the second child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, she was third in line to the throne when she was born and she is now 17th in the line of succession.

She has married twice and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, is the father of her two children, Peter and Zara.

Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2020, Princess Anne reflected upon the decision not to grant her children titles: “I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles… So I think that was probably the right thing to do.”

Zara Tindall has publicly spoken about her mother’s work ethic on Seven: Rob Burrow, The Total Sport Podcast. She said: “From my point of view, I was obviously very lucky that my mother didn’t give us any titles so I really commend her on that. We were very lucky that we got to do it a bit our own way.”

“My family has a great work ethic as well which I’m hoping they instilled in me and is still going to this day.”
